Tweet Did you know you can use some old blog content, add some free music and produce new content, a new audience as well as more backlinks to your site? Well, I was reading on the train a few days ago about stealing content. Yeah, stealing is a bad thing and Google might punish you for plagarism but there’s a real sneaky trick to get around all this …. and here’s the secret sauce. Bingo, Bango, Boo … Hey Presto It’s your own content you’re thieving so cool for cats. The reasoning is to look at all those old pieces of content that get little click thru and interest and re-purpose the content into videos. Well, being a boring train ride, I deftly sent a number of articles off to ReadItLater for safe keeping. And I remembered the wonders of a video distribution network called TubeMogul – one upload that’s pushed out to multiple destination video aggregates like YouTube, Vimeo, DailyMotion etc etc. I used this service a number of years ago and the cool thing was being able to write the same description file and that gets pushed out with the video too. Pop in a few site links and instant Google connections. You’re creating (or recreating) content using a different medium and video is loved by more and more Internet Users these days. Short attention span Facebookers that can click play and sit back and listen. Old Content and Free Music = Brand New Content I’m a Mac guy. Keynote was my weapon of choice. Concept is simple: Find old blog post Copy and Paste the key lines into your Presentation app Add some wizardry transitions to make it look uber-sexy Add some music and preferably free music or you might get bumped on upload Found a great site for free music, yep that’s right, free music – check out CCMixter Keep the dot-points per slide to around 3 points Easier reading while the reader is listening to the free music :) Avoid noisy slide themes too I mean Powerpoint hell where each slide is a sea of text – difficult to read when converted to a YouTube movie For simplicity, I exported the Keynote as a MOV file, load into Garageband, drag the free music MP3 and again export this file to the hard drive Distribution Magic Comes Next Now I just know you’d prefer to get more Viewer Audience, not to mention more backlinks And I also know you’re probably like me and prefer to avoid mundane uploading to multiple sites. Well, Christmas has come early to you, my friend. Enter the hallowed halls of OneLoad, previously know as TubeMogul. Upload Once, Distribute To Many – Magic Your first video upload is going to take longer than any others. You’ll need to set up accounts, if you don’t have them, for YouTube, DailyMotion, MySpace, MetaCafe, Veoh, Flickr and PhotoBucket – there’s the usual suspects of LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter as well. This takes a little bit of time but make sure you explore the lower section called ‘Save My Credientials’ – OneLoad will store them and save you valuable time for all subsequent videos. My Example OK, remember I’m not a Creative Type to begin with. The old content is here at my relationships advice site The Best Ways To Screw Up A Relationship – check it is you like and see how I’ve plucked out the essential meat from the content to produce this: Pretty Cool huh? I’m sure you real Creative Types can give me some tips – but you’ll agree the sentiment of the article still shines through anyway. And this now repurposes for a new audience for my content, backlinks to the site and article, hopefully more people commenting and traffic for lists and products. Doesn’t take longer once you’ve done one either. What do you think? Could you do this yourself?

Tweet Google Really Might Be Evil … People Can Invent Worse This might not be of much interest to many of the readers to this site but I thought I’d pen something that’s dear to my heart – if you don’t know what SEO is, move along … move along. A few days ago, Google rolled out another of it’s world impacting algorithms. They’ve been steadily fine tuning their search and ranking code in an endevour to what they say makes for a fairer playing field for the production of high quality content as opposed to scoring backlinks from other sites. These backlinks have always been reputed to be of equal importance and I dare say, Google promoted this fact until recently. In the past, this has meant people also invented ways to scam the Google system by paying for high quality backlinks or devising other methods to obtain them … read ‘Link Farms’ and ‘Link Directories’. Google has now changed that. Their algorithm now determines whether you have inorganic or webspam backlinks, pointing to your site. The Downside? Think about it. Google’s code isn’t done by human beings. It’s controlled by computers. Smart computers but computers all the same. Computers are unforgiving and unrelenting. I say this because my GeekandJock site was recently hit by this lovely Penguin code and the traffic plunged into crap. The thing is, the onus is on me now. There’s supposedly some inorganic backlinks pointing back. Instead of Google simply wiping this webspam links out of it’s register and continuing on, GeekandJock is now penalised and I’m required to track through over 4500 backlinks and make a determination myself as to whether the link is crap. And then endevour to get the backlink removed from a site I have no control over. This is going to be fun. I’ll persevere. The Next Evil SEO Which leads me to what is likely to happen next in SEO world. Instead of SEO black and white hatters doing good content and content alone, I can shortly see a flourishing industry popping up …. and still using webspam backlinks! That’s not going to go away any time soon. EXCEPT those next generation backlinks are going to be squarely directed to your websites competition! Yep, if you can’t win …. …. using the exact same technique that Google is penalising hundred of thousands of websites today. Do You Think This Is Likely? Let me know in the comments

Tweet OK, repeat after me: What’s Going On? I don’t know about you but all this continual rain, here in South East Queensland, is really peeving me off. OK, maybe it’s because I just left my umbrella on the train into work, this morning and have gotten a little damp. But …. what’s going on with this weather? It Isn’t Due to The Green House Effect Personal Opinion Time. Even before Al Gore’s movie, I maintained an opinion that weather changes are simply part of a much larger and longer term planetary cycle. The Earth has been around for millions of years. The oceans and atmosphere are continually mixing and changing – and they’re each freaking huge. To that end, humans have only been around and recording weather changes for hundreds of years (if that). We’re completely clueless when it comes to these planetary cycles. A rather amusing and personal example was a few years ago. We (previous wife) had a pool. The region was also going through a drought and water restrictions were in force. The Local Government decided to enforce the installation of water tanks, pool covers and rain water diversion pipes, for pool owners. While I can see some sense in this, I also said at the time that this drought would be cyclic and it would turn out that these enforcements would result in a waste of effort and expense. Well, guess what? Six months later, after we’d installed all this stuff, it started raining … South East Queensland has since been inundated with rain, we’ve had floods and the wet season continues. That said …

Tweet Pam and Nic have the greatest laughs, at my expense – when it comes to McDonalds. McDonalds Leads Me To Insanity Is it just me or does McDonalds have one of the most confusing menus known to man? Let me tell you how I see it so you can better understand then. They’ve got Supersize, Upsize, Meal-Deals and whatever else. In my mind, the guys and gals behind the counter seem to give me the impression that each and every customer knows their products and individual menu items, intimately. I just want an Angus burger with some fries, OK? “Did you want a meal deal?”. “What?”, I say. This some how involves a drink and I’m led to believe that there’s different size meal deals so the drink size and the fries size are locked in so I cant simply deduct one price of a small fries and have a large drink. Now They Confuse With The Favourite Angus Burger, Damn Them “Did you want to Grand Angus or the Special Angus?”. So I need to slide across and see that one has bacon now. Christ, why can’t I just get a freaking Angus Burger and Fries like I ordered? Understandably, Pam laughs and also gets a little anxious in seeing my rising stress levels in all this, after a few past episodes. She’s taken on the role of the official McDonald’s Order Taker now. Even still, last night she orders some chocolate Frappa which is quickly dispatched and the young girl places an appropriate straw with the drink, alongside the other two thick shakes. Now I’m wondering why these other thick shakes don’t have straws which is a little odd. Obviously, I felt compelled to ask the girl and she retrieved two different looking straws so I’m presuming that thick shakes come armed with alternative straws than the Fraps – odd. Yeah sure, McDonalds is a well known franchise that’s been around since before the Dawn of Time. It’s one of the most popular fast food destinations. It caters to billions of burgers the world over. It employs and fosters the training of millions of young people too, I’d wager. Give The Old Folks A Break, Huh? Can they also start thinking of customers as potential new customers who might not have ever visited? They just might improve their service standards into not requiring older folks like me into thinking I need a McDonalds Menu PhD.

Tweet So what’s been the Australian Governments response to the sudden rise and groundswell in the Kony 2012 movement? After watching the Kony video for the first time last night, I was stuck with the notion that our governments are an extension of ourselves I.e. selfish, self serving and narrow minded. If there’s a worthy cause in another part of the world which has absolutely no benefit to the country, they’re not interested. Sure, that actually aligns with the majority of the human race on this fragile planet, isn’t it? Rather stupidly, I was under the maligned impression that governments were interested in the well being of the globe. It wasn’t until watching the YouTube video that that realization was smashed to pieces. What a freaking sad bunch we all are. Question all you like about the ethics of the organization that is spearheading the movement. Who really gives a crap about penny pinching or the organizational skills or fragmented worthy causes? The real aha moment is they’ve got a self serving American government backing (currently a small number) the ‘find this Kony bastard and take him down’. With some luck, we’ll see a Australian political party solidarity in both condemning this Ugandan devil and committing our own country’s resources in combination with other Allied forces. Where is Rambo when you need him?

Tweet Never a truer word has been spoken when it comes to health care. I don’t know about you but I’ve seen these anti-wrinkle advertisements popping up everywhere, over the last couple of months. Pam drew my attention and suggested the cream ‘looked’ interesting since it was advertised and promoted in a local U.K newspaper. First The Advertisement That’s enough to spark curiosity in anyone who has wrinkles and would like them to vanish away. OK, I’m one of them :) So we go right ahead and click that link to see what it’s all about and land on a great looking News Website. Cool. Next The News Website Scammers have done a great job here. The Hooks The website address is http://www.lifestylereports.org/article/health/au/beauty/1/?t202id=414&t202kw=36-143-879 Wow, that’s a realistic looking address, isn’t it? There’s mention of all the right keywords to engender confidence LifeStyle Reports Health Beauty There’s a banner heading for Headlines A graphic image of 2 reporters who are both giving quotes on this new great wrinkle cream Even The Daily is featured, given credibility We’ve got a woman who looks like a reporter with a byline how this wrinkle cream has been successful for a Melbourne mother – there’s another hook to align the article with their target market too Great before and after photos And a huge pile of wrinkle cream testimonials from people who have been using this miracle wrinkle cream product The Facts There’s NOTHING sitting on the root level of our miracle wrinkle cream website. Going to http://www.lifestylereports.org shows an error. Nor does any other content seem to be on the site. It’s a placeholder page to give the impression of authority to sell you wrinkle cream. That banner. It doesn’t work and is just a banner picture and does nothing more. The Reporters. Again, nothing to click and verify who they are or whether they even verify or said these things. It’s another non-clickable graphic to give the elusion of authority to our little gremlins trying to sell you their miracle wrinkle cream. Those Wrinkle Cream Before and After Photos The first thing I noticed was how close the second one was to the actress, Cate Blanchett. Is that a co-incidence? This wrinkle transformation happened in just 15 days? Christ, that really is just too much for anyone to believe in, isn’t it? I actually ran the second photo through a detector and quickly discovered it has definitely been Photoshopped. So the photo of our wrinkle free and quite attractive woman is total scam material. All those words about how good this wrinkle cream is. Well, every clickable link is a link to their sales page and is MASKED to hide where you’ll end up. You’d think a real News site wouldn’t be continually sending you to another website. That’s because this site is bogus. Comments. Funny, I’ve been here twice now and both times the comments has been closed due to Spam and yet there’s comments dated since I was first there. Closed and moderated comments allow these scammers to only allow good reviews but I think it’s more a case that there’s only one set of comments and just the dates are incremented to make it appear fresh No negative comments whatsoever so you’re only going to think this Wonder Wrinkle Cream is legit, aren’t you? Google Time Well, sorry to say that a Google search reveals these bastards have ensnared thousands of unsuspecting people who want their wrinkles gone and gone forever. It’s tasty bait for all of us who’d like a younger face. The Scammers are using the age-old marketing bait of ‘Hope’ and quick hope too. People have given over their credit card information on good faith and been rewarded with a 2 part product that is delivered but it’s delivered AFTER the period of time that you can cencel out. So the bad news is your credit card is at the mercy of auto-billing. Good luck with that :( Now Repeat After Me Now go out and Google on wrinkle solutions. Just make sure they are natural, chemical free and will be long term. Nothing is a quick fix. What’s Your View? Please do drop a quick note in the comments below.

Tweet Well, another wonderful day yesterday at the Eumundi Markets. It’s got a great country market feel to it. This time we spent a little more time wandering around and listening to some of the local bands that were playing and selling their CDs. Highlighted by one band (I wish I jotted down their name) that played a mixture of techno and Indigenous music – that’s weaving in the sound of the Aboriginal Didgeridoo. Cool Dude With His Dance On The one thing that made the experience even more amazing was a guy just wandered from the crown into the band area and started dancing. He was really quite talented and captured the attention of everyone in the crowd. Check out a part of him in the video below. Way cool! Cool sounds of the Aboriginal Didgeridoo Very Cool Dude Dancing I had my usual German Sausage with Sauerkraut, mustard and tomato sauce and we also tried some incredibly scrumptious Tibetan dumplings with mild chilli sauce & soy sauces – they were good. Wandered into another pair of guitarists, equally talented. The pair started off hooking up in Byron Bay and ended up the Sunshine Coast. Oh and Nic bought himself an inch high Buddha statue as well – a dream come true. One Last Thing Snapped a cool pic of a Ned Kelly poster too.

Tweet When people think of a large State wide company like Queensland Rail, they conjure up images of people working in a quasi-Govenment mentality. You know the stereotypical type of worker who’s there to fill in the day and not give a stuff about much at all. Not As You’d Think They Are Well, the Queensland Rail people I’ve dealt with on 4 occasions have been an absolute pleasure. Currently with work, I’m traveling into the Brisbane CBD quite often during the week. I’m still getting used to train travel so I often am just a little confused on what I’m doing and where I’m suppose to be doing it. Necessitating tapping the nearest QR guy or gal on the shoulder and seeking help. Well, when it comes to customer service, no matter whether in the ticket office or walking the platform, there’s simply nothing too trivial for them to help with and be overjoyed in making sure you have everything you need to ensure your (my) journey is a total success. Queensland Rail Great Examples Both encounters in getting my initial Travel Pass organised were simply a pleasure. Congrats to the guys at Landsborough Ticket Office for their calm patience with a guy who hasn’t been on a train for more than a decade. And at Central Station this afternoon. I wandered onto Platform 6 to find out when the next train was likely to collect me. Without even having to ask, the polite attendant wandered over and asked where I was off to. He sped off to grab his timetable book and let me know the next train was due in about an hour. Suggested where I might get the better coffee upstairs as well as to pop over to the QR Information Counter and grab a current copy of the timetable for the Nambour line. Huge Vote Of Thanks Kudos to Queensland Rail and the men and women that are making your business a success with the Queensland people.

Tweet When you live on the sunshine coast, there’s a few places the simply resonate that ‘country feel’. Immediately, the names of Montville and Maleny spring to mind. Well that’s where we’ve spent today – showing the sites to Nic and Pam, though Pam has already had a day trip to Montville. Mind you, it’s been about 15 years since I was last in Maleny. I remember back then it was a busy place and renowned for its quaint trinket and craft shops. A popular haunt for tourists passing through the area and an outlet for the locals to sell the wares they produced during the week. Well, Maleny turned out to really be the sleepy town for aging hippies, living the organic lifestyle. Good to revisit but we were more in the mood to wander through tinket shops and browse ‘arty’ types of places. Next stop was Montville. Which is always a good wander. Plenty of trinkets to check out and was a good walk. Pam and Nic’s legs got worn out so we left late afternoon, with more stuff still to see. That for the next trip. Check out some snaps below too.
