Thought I’d pop a quick video I did some time ago of Pam and my first meeting. First time in Bali and then I popped over to her in Cape Town, South Africa. I’m actually putting together a longer post over on the GeekandJock site as a celebration (as well as the challenges) that we had when we first met. That post is coming out in a few days to co-incide with the very first time we met on Facebook on February 12th, 2009. There’s some great insights for those looking to get into or are already in a long distance relationship.

Never a truer word has been spoken when it comes to health care. I don’t know about you but I’ve seen these anti-wrinkle advertisements popping up everywhere, over the last couple of months. Pam drew my attention and suggested the cream ‘looked’ interesting since it was advertised and promoted in a local U.K newspaper. First The Advertisement That’s enough to spark curiosity in anyone who has wrinkles and would like them to vanish away. OK, I’m one of them :) So we go right ahead and click that link to see what it’s all about and land on a great looking News Website. Cool. Next The News Website Scammers have done a great job here. The Hooks The website address is http://www.lifestylereports.org/article/health/au/beauty/1/?t202id=414&t202kw=36-143-879 Wow, that’s a realistic looking address, isn’t it? There’s mention of all the right keywords to engender confidence LifeStyle Reports Health Beauty There’s a banner heading for Headlines A graphic image of 2 reporters who are both giving quotes on this new great wrinkle cream Even The Daily is featured, given credibility We’ve got a woman who looks like a reporter with a byline how this wrinkle cream has been successful for a Melbourne mother – there’s another hook to align the article with their target market too Great before and after photos And a huge pile of wrinkle cream testimonials from people who have been using this miracle wrinkle cream product The Facts There’s NOTHING sitting on the root level of our miracle wrinkle cream website. ...

Well, another wonderful day yesterday at the Eumundi Markets. It’s got a great country market feel to it. This time we spent a little more time wandering around and listening to some of the local bands that were playing and selling their CDs. Highlighted by one band (I wish I jotted down their name) that played a mixture of techno and Indigenous music – that’s weaving in the sound of the Aboriginal Didgeridoo. Cool Dude With His Dance On The one thing that made the experience even more amazing was a guy just wandered from the crown into the band area and started dancing. He was really quite talented and captured the attention of everyone in the crowd. Check out a part of him in the video below. Way cool! Cool sounds of the Aboriginal Didgeridoo Very Cool Dude Dancing I had my usual German Sausage with Sauerkraut, mustard and tomato sauce and we also tried some incredibly scrumptious Tibetan dumplings with mild chilli sauce & soy sauces – they were good. Wandered into another pair of guitarists, equally talented. The pair started off hooking up in Byron Bay and ended up the Sunshine Coast. Oh and Nic bought himself an inch high Buddha statue as well – a dream come true. One Last Thing Snapped a cool pic of a Ned Kelly poster too.

When people think of a large State wide company like Queensland Rail, they conjure up images of people working in a quasi-Govenment mentality. You know the stereotypical type of worker who’s there to fill in the day and not give a stuff about much at all. Not As You’d Think They Are Well, the Queensland Rail people I’ve dealt with on 4 occasions have been an absolute pleasure. Currently with work, I’m traveling into the Brisbane CBD quite often during the week. I’m still getting used to train travel so I often am just a little confused on what I’m doing and where I’m suppose to be doing it. Necessitating tapping the nearest QR guy or gal on the shoulder and seeking help. Well, when it comes to customer service, no matter whether in the ticket office or walking the platform, there’s simply nothing too trivial for them to help with and be overjoyed in making sure you have everything you need to ensure your (my) journey is a total success. Queensland Rail Great Examples Both encounters in getting my initial Travel Pass organised were simply a pleasure. Congrats to the guys at Landsborough Ticket Office for their calm patience with a guy who hasn’t been on a train for more than a decade. And at Central Station this afternoon. I wandered onto Platform 6 to find out when the next train was likely to collect me. Without even having to ask, the polite attendant wandered over and asked where ...

When you live on the sunshine coast, there’s a few places the simply resonate that ‘country feel’. Immediately, the names of Montville and Maleny spring to mind. Well that’s where we’ve spent today – showing the sites to Nic and Pam, though Pam has already had a day trip to Montville. Mind you, it’s been about 15 years since I was last in Maleny. I remember back then it was a busy place and renowned for its quaint trinket and craft shops. A popular haunt for tourists passing through the area and an outlet for the locals to sell the wares they produced during the week. Well, Maleny turned out to really be the sleepy town for aging hippies, living the organic lifestyle. Good to revisit but we were more in the mood to wander through tinket shops and browse ‘arty’ types of places. Next stop was Montville. Which is always a good wander. Plenty of trinkets to check out and was a good walk. Pam and Nic’s legs got worn out so we left late afternoon, with more stuff still to see. That for the next trip. Check out some snaps below too.

Funny how often we rely on traveling around by car, isn’t it? Pam’s permanent Australian visa currently hinges on Nic getting his temporary one. That relies on simply getting his medicals over, done with and approved by the Immigration Dept so today was the day to get into the Briabane CBD and nail that. And what better way to traverse the journey than by train. Since I’ve recently been using the train to travel from Buderim to Brisbane, I was aware of the ease of use, not having the hassle of City parking and expense and it’s also quite relaxing. And neither Pam or Nic have done the trip. So time to saddle up. It’s just as fast as car. Pleasant scenery. Air Conditioned travel. I like it because I don’t have to do the driving. All medicals done in an hour or so. Immigration people were all good, helpful and pleasant too which takes stress away from dealing with Government Departments. Now once the medicals are formally approved, Nic gets the temporary which paves the way for both of them in becoming fully fledged permanent Aussie residents. Yippee to that, huh?

What a fantastic trip down to Sydney for Christmas. We (Pam, Nic and I) had the pleasure in staying with Pam’s cousin Maureen and her cool husband, Phil Waser. This is a case of family also being great and wonderful friends as well. To spend the Christmas period with far away family really is so cool. To top it all off, we also got to meet Maureen and Phil’s families too. Great kids the half on both sides of their family. So some terrific new family connections have been made! Sydney Is A Rush Though It was Nic’s first time in Sydney – obviously since he’s only been here for a few months so we took the train into the CBD. Checked out the sites of Darling Harbour. Do check out the photo album for our Sydney trip too. Pam got to check out the new Zara store which she’s been dying to see – Brisbane always seems to be the last city to get these overseas stores, for some reason. The list of shops we popped into was endless – Gap, Ralph Loren, etc etc etc. It was fun though. And then came the lunch hour people rush. Christ, it was chaos in the Sydney CBD. I think I commented it felt like what New York might be like in rush hour. People like ants were walking everywhere. Good experience but I prefer the less hectic Sunshine Coast :) It was quite sad to say goodbye to the Wasers ...
